HOUSTON, Texas – The Wofford men’s soccer team picked up a goal early in the first half, yet surrendered a goal midway through the second half to finish in a 1-1 double overtime draw with Houston Baptist Friday evening at Sorrels Field in Houston, Texas.
The tie puts the Terriers at 2-3-1 overall on the season.
Wofford was able to provide the first strike offensively, as Turner Almond scored his first career goal in the 10th minute of action, sending a shot out of the reach of HBU keeper Daniel Boyer
The Terriers held off the Houston Baptist attack throughout the remainder of the first half, as keeper Andrew Drennan picked up four saves in the first 45 minute to keep the Wolves scoreless at the half.
HBU was able to tie the match at 1-1 in the 64th minute as Tanner Fyfe was able to find the back of the net following a corner kick. Kyle Herbison was credited with the assist.
The Terriers attempted to score the game-winning goal in the remainder of regulation, putting two shots on goal in that time, yet none were able to make their way past Boyer.
The two overtime periods were a defensive struggle, as neither team was able to attempt a single shot throughout the two 10-minute periods.
Drennan played the entire match in goal for the Terriers, tallying eight saves, facing 15 shots by HBU. Boyer played the entire 110 minutes in goal for the Wolves, earning four saves while facing 11 shots.
Wofford will return to action Tuesday evening, hosting #4 North Carolina in the Terriers’ home opener. The match is set for a 7:00 p.m. start time at Snyder Field, with the match being the SCYSA’s Youth Soccer Month Game of the Week. All youth soccer players in attendance will receive special prizes.
