Women’s Tennis Falls to Kennesaw State, 5-2, Friday Afternoon

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision Friday afternoon to Kennesaw State at the Reeves Tennis Center.
 
With the loss, the Terriers drop to 3-2 on the season, while the Owls improve to 4-2 overall.
 
Wofford claimed an early 1-0 advantage on the strength of sweeping doubles play.  The pairing of Othilia Lindqvist and Sarah Evans defeated Vera Shkundina/Alexandra Apostu (8-6) at the No. 1 position, which was quickly followed by the duo of Lucy Schermerhorn and Audrey Coventry defeating Therese Lagerkvist and Tamara Plocher (8-6) at the No. 3 spot to clinch the doubles point.  The team of Julia Paulson and Samantha Sullivan downed Virginie Stein and Jana Hueckinghaus (8-5) at the No. 2 spot to complete the sweep.
 
Kennesaw State fought back in singles action, taking five of the six matches to claim the overall victory.  At the No. 4 position, Othilia Lindqvist battled back after dropping the first set to Jana Hueckinghaus, taking the next two sets to earn the lone singles win for the Terriers (5-7, 7-5, 10-2).
 
The Terriers will quickly turn around for their next match, as the squad hits the road to take on Charleston Southern tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in Charleston, S.C.
