SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to UAB Sunday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center.
With the loss, Wofford drops to 3-6 overall, while UAB improves to 4-6 overall.
Action began with doubles play, where the pairing of Sarah Evans and Othilis Lindqvist downed Paula Alvarez and Isabel Fernandez (8-1), but UAB took the remaining two matches to give the Blazers the early 1-0 advantage.
The Blazers built their advantage at the onset of singles play, taking matches at the No. 5, No. 3 and No. 2 positions to seal the overall victory. At the No. 1 spot, Sarah Evans defeated Isabel Fernandez (7-5, 6-3), and Othilia Lindqvist defeated Menanteau Moolman (7-6, 6-7, 10-3) in a third-set tiebreaker at the No. 4 position. Samantha Sullivan earned a win at the No. 6 position by default.
The Terriers will take an extended break in action before opening Southern Conference play on Saturday, March 17th at College of Charleston. The match is slated for a start time of 1:00 p.m.
