SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men’s golf team rallied to finish fourth led by Chandler Brazeal at the Coca-Cola Invitational at the par-72, 6,648 yard Country Club of Spartanburg.
The Terriers sat in sixth after the opening two rounds, but rallied on the final 18-holes to finish in fourth with a 286-292-291—869.
Wofford’s second team took 15th place after a 300-293-301—897.
Charleston Southern won the event with a 282-289-279—841. Their 279 final round tied a tournament record for low team 18-hole round and broke the record for lowest round over the final 18-holes of the tournament. They also set the tournament record for best team finish at 841 and best team relation to par finish at -23.
Brazeal turned in a 70-72-72—214 to claim 11th and pace the Terriers individually. Cory Taylor finished 18th with a 74-73-69-216. His 69 in the final round was the first under-70 round turned in by the freshman. Brent McKenzie shot a 69-72-75—216 and also finished in 18th. Brannan Hudson carded a 73-76-75—224, while Mark Joye finished with a 74-75-77—226.
The second Wofford team was led by Brent Whitehead who fired a 79-69-72—220, and Alan King who scored a 78-73-74—225. Zack Capps followed with a 74-77-76—227, and Hayes Brown carded a 76-74-79—229. Chuck Moore shot a 72-79-80—231.
Campbell’s Vaita Guillaume took the top individual spot with a 69-64-71—204. His 64 in round two set a new tournament 18-hole low and second round tournament low. His 54-hole total of 204 also set a new tournament record and his -12 set a new tournament relation to par finish record.
Wofford will head to the Southern Conference Championship in Daniel Island, S.C. on April 15 through April 17 for their next tournament.
