Burkert, Bailey Leads Wofford at SoCon Outdoor Track and Field Championship

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Alyssa Burkert took seventh in the 800m finals, while Joe Bailey finished fifth in the high jump to lead the men’s and women’s track and field teams at the Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet.
 
Burkert finished with a time of 2:10.41 in the preliminary good enough for second place and a spot in the finals on Sunday.  Katie Kessler also set a personal best in the 800m with a time of 2:16.40 with put her in 14th place.
 
In the 400m, Emily Gothberg set a personal best with a time of 1:00.49, which put her in 15th place.
 
On day two for the women, Burkert finished 7th in the finals of the 800m with a time of 2:16.81 to score points for the team.
 
The women’s relay team of Katie Kessler, Emily Gothberg, Megan Kauffman and Nicole Kiasnic set the school record in the 4x100m relay with a time of 53.29.
 
The 4x400m relay team of Kessler, Burkert, Klasnic and Gothberg finished seventh with a time of 4:00.94 and scored points.
 
On the men’s side, three Terriers set personal marks in the 400m with Chase West finishing in 13th with a time of 50.91, and Travis Butler taking 18th with a time of 51.46.  Sam Parrott was the third Terrier in the preliminary with a time of 52.08.
 
Justin Whitaker and Tyler Slonecki both set personal best in the 800m with times of 1:59.86 and 2:05.20 respectively.
 
Russell Baker also set a new personal best in the 10,000m with a time of 33:56.12.
 
On day two for the men, The 4x100m relay team of Tyrell Jemison, Chase West, Sam Parrott and Travis Butler finished sixth with a time of 44.97 and scored points for the team.  The 4x400m relay team of Butler, Parrott, Slonecki and West also scored points with a time of 3:27.66.
 
Joe Bailey had the best finish on the day as he took fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.96m and scored team points, while Mike McCrimon took sixth with a distance of 13.95 in the triple jump to score team points.
 
The women finished 11th with four points, while the men took ninth with 11 points.
