Terriers Downs Colgate 4-0 Friday Night in CU Fall Classic

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Wofford men’s soccer team defeated the Raiders of Colgate University 4-0 Friday night in Hamilton, N.Y..  Blair Gaines, Alex Hutchins, and Forrest Lasso all scored to lead the Terriers to their third straight victory.  Wofford improves to 4-2-0 and Colgate falls to 1-4-2 for the year.

Blaire Gaines opened the scoring for the Terriers in the 20th minute.   Alex Hutchins found the defensemen on a breakaway, and Gaines was able scored past Raider keeper, Grant Reed.  Wofford would double their lead just three minutes later when Hutchins beat Reed with a well placed penalty shot.  The Terriers would add a third goal in the first half when Forrest Lasso headed in a free kick by Carlos Dominguez Gonzalez.

Wofford lead 3-0 at the break.  The Terriers and Raiders each took six shots in the first half, but Colgate held the edge in corners taken (3-1).  Colgate would make a change in goal to start the second half with Christian Quinttus replacing Reed.  However, Quinttus was replaced after only three minutes by Liam Stapleton.

Hutchins would score his second goal in the 50th minute when he would combine with Nestor Jaramillo on a give-and-go inside the box.  Jaramillo has now recorded a point in each of the Terriers last three victories, and the goal was Hutchins’ fifth of the season.

Andrew Drennan earned the shutout win for the Terriers and is now 4-2-0 on the year.  He recorded three saves on nine shots faced.  Grant Reed gets the loss for Colgate and is now 1-4-2 for the season.  He saw 12 shots and made zero saves.

The Terriers return to action on Sunday, September 16, when they face the Cornell Big Red in their second game of the Colgate University Fall Classic.  The match is set to kick-off at 1:00 p.m..
