Box Score MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The Wofford women’s soccer team lost in a heartbreaker to the College of Charleston 1-0 Friday night. Wofford falls to 5-3-0 and 0-1 in the Southern Conference while College of Charleston improves to 2-6-0 and 1-0 in conference play.
The Cougars controlled the majority of the first half and tested the Terrier defense with four shots on goal. However, they were unable to beat Terrier keeper, Kara Boggs, as she made four first half saves. Charleston held the edge in shots (8-2) and corners taken (3-0), but the teams would go into the locker room tied at zero.
The second half was much more balanced as both team possessed the ball and tried to create scoring chances. Charleston again held the edge in shots (6-4) but Wofford took more corners (2-1). The game looked to be headed for overtime, but Charleston was finally able to break the scoreless tie in the 89
th minute. Sarah Schaidle crossed the ball into the box and found Michaela Herrmann, who was able to score past Boggs to the far post.
Kara Boggs gets the loss for the Terriers despite making a career high seven saves on 14 shots. She falls to 3-2 for the year. Taylor Avery gets the win for the Cougars and improves to 2-5 this season.
The Terriers return to action on Sunday to face the Bulldogs of the Citadel in a Southern Conference match-up. Action is set to kick-off at 2:00 p.m. at the Washington Light Infantry Field in Charleston.
