Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Place Eight in the Top-20 at Niswonger Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – The Wofford men's and women's track and field teams placed eight athletes and had three personal best at the Niswonger Invitational Friday and Saturday in the second indoor meet of the season.

Katie Kessler led the women's team with a first place finish in the 800m open race with at time of 2:21.71. Alyssa Burkert finished in the top ten in two events, the 800m seeded race and the mile open race. She took seventh in the 800m seeded race with a time of 2:17.13 topping her time from the opening meet by seven seconds. She finished in ninth in the mile seeded race with a time of 5:21.66. Sam Hughes set a new personal best in the 3,000m seeded race with a time of 10:35.56 and a finished in ninth place. Alissa Williams finished in tenth place in the 3,000m seeded race with a time of 10:40.08, while Carly Egan finished 12th in the open 5,000m with a time of 20:22.96. Niki Klasnic also finished in 12th with a time of 5:24.68 in the open mile.

On the men's side, Patrick Cummings finished in fifth place with a time of 2:00.91, just over a second off the Wofford school record in the open 800m. Tevin Johnson finished just outside the top 20 in 21st place with a distance of 5.94m in the long jump. Tyrell Jemison set a new personal best in the 60m with a time of 7.51. Hunter McGahee also set a new personal best with a time of 4:46.92 in the mile.

Wofford returns to the track at the two-day JDL Fast Track Meet in Winston-Salem, N.C. on February 1 and February 2.
