Box Score GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Wofford women's soccer team fell to the Furman Paladins 2-0 in its final regular season match on Wednesday evening on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.
With the loss, Wofford ends the regular season to 8-4-5 overall and 4-2-4 in Southern Conference play. Furman improves to 14-3-2 overall and 8-1-1 in the Southern Conference with the win.
In the first half, the Paladins created the first chance in the third minute when Hanna Stanifer had her shot saved by junior goalkeeper Kara Boggs.
Boggs would be tested again in the sixth minute and she made a save on Dee Makris' shot.
Wofford would create its first chance of the half 30 seconds later when sophomore forward Mary Beth Bleekrode had her shot saved by Furman goalkeeper Rose Hull.
After many opportunities, the Paladins would finally take a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute when Carlie Couch would score her 11th of the season off a rebound.
The Terriers would then try to tie up the match before the half, but senior midfielder Alex Kachulis' shot was blocked in the 40th minute, keeping the score at 1-0 going into the break.
In the second half, Stephanie DeVita created the first chance for the Paladins in the 47th minute but her shot was saved by Boggs.
Sophomore forward Chloe Brackett would create the first chance of Wofford in the 54th minute, but her shot was saved by Hull.
After much pressure with many chances on goal, Furman scored its second in the 71st minute when Makris scored her third of the season from 26-yards out making the score 2-0.
Wofford would continue to try to create opportunities in the final 20 minutes of play, but were unable to score as Furman held on for the 2-0 victory.
For the match, Furman outshot Wofford 22-4 and also won the corner battle 7-2.
In goal, junior Kara Boggs made her second start of the season and fell to her second loss as she faced 22 Paladin shots and made eight saves. Hull improved to 10-1-1 on the season for the Paladins facing four Terrier shots and made two saves.
The women's soccer team will return to action on Sunday November 3 when they travel to the No. 3 seed UNCG, who finished 5-2-3 in the SoCon, at 2 p.m. The Terriers will be making their first appearance in the tournament since 2010.
