Postseason Notes
Â
Wofford in the SoCon Tournament
- The Terriers will be making their fifth SoCon Tournament appearance and hold an overall record of 1-4. Wofford's lone victory came in 2005, defeating Elon, 3-2, in the first round. The Terriers then lost to College of Charleston, 3-0, in the quarterfinals. Wofford's four prior tournament appearances were in 1997, 2001, 2005 and 2006. The Terriers have never advanced to the semifinals.
Â
Sweet Leading the Terriers to New Heights
- Leading the Terriers back to the tournament for the first time in seven years is first-year head coach, Ron Sweet. Sweet, who led Kishwaukee College to three consecutive NJCAA national championships from 2006-08, spent three seasons at James Madison University prior to joining the Terrier staff.
- Sweet led Wofford to seven conference victories in his first season, the program's most since going 7-11 in 2005. After beginning the conference season with three losses, Sweet and the Terriers won three straight Southern Conference matches for the first time since 2001-02 when Wofford won the last two regular-season matches of the 2001 season, and the 2002 SoCon opener. It was the first time since joining the league in 1997 the Terriers won three in a row during the same season.
Â
Baird Earns Second Team All-Conference Honors
- Junior right-side hitter Taylor Baird became just the second Terrier in program history to earn all-conference honors when she was named Second Team All-Southern Conference on Wednesday. Baird led the Terriers with 385 total kills and 3.29 kills per set during the regular season, ranking among the top five in the Southern Conference. Her 37 service aces and 0.32 per set also led the Terriers and ranked No. 4 in the league. Andrea Duke (2001, 2003-04) is the only other Terrier to earn all-conference honors, being named to the second team in 2003.
Â
Liguori Breaks All-Time Kills Record
- Senior outside hitter Amanda Liguori broke Wofford's career kills record last Friday to help the Terriers defeat Chattanooga and clinch a SoCon Tournament berth. Liguori surpassed Andrea Duke's mark of 1,237 career kills on her first kill of the third set. She finished the night with a match-high 17 kills and now has 1,251 for her career. The senior also eclipsed 1,000 digs earlier this season to become the fifth member of the program's 1,000-kill, 1,000-dig club.
Â
Dorsey Reaches Milestone
- Senior setter Bekah Dorsey eclipsed 1,000 career digs in the regular-season finale at Samford, becoming the 14th Terrier in program history to reach the mark. Dorsey earned her 3,000th career assist earlier this season and is just one of two Terriers (Joanna Suddath, 2006-09) to have both 3,000 career assists and 1,000 career digs.
