Outdoor Track and Field Opens Season at 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Wofford men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams opened its season at the two-day 49er Classic Friday and Saturday.
 
Sam Hughes set a new school record and an outdoor personal best in the 3,000m with a time of 10:37.31 good enough for eighth place.   Nicole Klasnic finished in third place in the 2,000m steeplechase with a time of 7:36.04 and finished .18 tenths of a second off of the school record in the 1,500m with a time of 4:43.08 and in 14th place.  Alyssa Burkert finished in fifth place with a time of 2:16.36 in the 800m, and 28th in the 1,500m with a time of 4:49.68.  In the 800m, Katie Kessler took seventh after a time of 2:17.18.  Carly Egan also finished in the top 30 with a 26th place finish in the 3,000m with a time of 11:32.96.  Alissa Williams set a new personal mark in the 1,500m with a time of 4:59.18.  Jordan Burke ran a new personal best in the 100m with a time of 13.88.
 
On the men’s side, Ryan Doyle set a new school record in the 5,000m with a time of 15:18.75 and in 32nd place.  Tevin Johnson finished in the top 30 in two of the four events he competed in at the meet.  Johnson took 19th in the high jump with a height of 1.83m and 22 in the triple jump with a distance of 12.41m.  He just missed the top 30 in the long jump in 32nd place with a distance of 6.21m.  Andrew McCurry finished in the top 30 in two events. He took 23rd in the javelin with a distance of 40.79m, and 28th in the shot put with a distance of 11.69m.  Matt Menard finished in 19th with a time of 9:55.62 in the 3,000m making the top 30.
 
Wofford will return to the track at the Western Carolina Invitational on March 23 in Cullowhee, N.C. for its next meet.
