GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford women’s tennis team fell 7-0 on the road to the Furman Paladins Wednesday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center. The Terriers fall to 5-8 and 1-2 in conference play, while the Paladins improve to 6-6 and 2-0 in the Southern Conference.
In doubles action, Furman swept all three matches to claim the doubles point. First, Kelly Sullivan and Margaret Boyette defeated Othilia Lindqvist and Emily Przystawski 8-1 at the No. 3 position. Next, Michele Stanford and Amanda Murray beat Sarah Evans and Mareli Sanchez 8-1 in the No. 2 spot. Then, Lauren Kline and Alex Moreno-Kaste topped Julia Paulson and Lucy Schermerhorn 8-3 at No. 1.
On the singles side, the Paladins won three quick points to clinch the match. First, Audrey Coventry fell to Moreno-Kaste (6-0, 6-1) in the No. 2 spot. Next, Stanford defeated Sanchez (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 4 position. Then, Sullivan beat Przystawski (6-3, 6-1) to clinch the Furman victory.
At the No. 3 match-up, Paulson battled Katherine Oudin but fell in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). Murray topped Schermerhorn (6-2, 6-1) in the No. 5 spot. In the day’s final match, Evans fought Kline in a very tight second set but could not even the score (6-2, 7-5) at the No. 1 position.
Wofford returns to the court March 23, when they travel to face Chattanooga in Tennessee. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
