CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Wofford College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Beynon Sports Catamount Classic on Saturday at Western Carolina. The women finished sixth out of seventeen teams, while the men were eleventh.
On the women’s side, Sam Hughes took first place in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:26.93. In the 800 meters, Katie Kessler was sixth with a time of 2:15.48 and Alyssa Burkert finished seventh in 2:17.43.
Niki Klasnic was third in the 1500 meters in 4:48.63, while Alissa Williams was seventh in 4:53.52. Sloane Brandon and Keenan Langley were ninth and twelfth, respectively in the long jump. Kathleen Woods had a throw of 31-03.25 to finish eleventh in the shot put. The team was seventh in the 4x100 relay and third in the 4x400 relay.
For the men, Chase West was 14th in the 400 meters in 51.10. Alex Michaels posted a 4:15.62 in the 1500 meters to finish 17th. In the 5000 meters, Ryan Doyle had a 15:47.53 for an eighth place finish. Tevin Johnson went 6-02.25 in the high jump for a fifth place finish and he was eighth in the long jump at 6.34 meters. Andrew McCurry was eleventh in the shot put. The 4x100 relay was fifth overall and the 4x400 relay was seventh.
Next weekend the squads will compete at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
