Next, Brice Allanic and Charlie Ghriskey outfought Rob Galloway and Jackson Keith, 8-6, in the No. 1 spot. Then, Sebastian Lopez and Billy Kenny topped Walker Heffron and Tom Wood, 8-5, at No. 2.
On the singles side, the Cougars won the first two match-ups to increase their lead to 3-0. Ghriskey beat Heffron in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) in the No. 4 position, and Lewis bested Wood (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 5 spot. Galloway responded for Wofford by edging Allanic in a tight second set to claim the point (6-2, 7-5) in the No. 1 match-up. The Terriers grabbed another point after Keith overcame a poor first set and forced a third set tie-break with Crescente Lesser. Lesser jumped in front early with a 6-2 victory in set one, but Keith responded to win the second 7-5. However, in the third set Lesser was forced to retire, giving Keith the victory. In the day’s final match, Lopez outlasted Superstein in a second set tie-break (6-3, 7-6 (7-4)) to wrap up the match 5-2 in favor of the Cougars.
The Terriers return to the court Saturday, April 13, when they host Appalachian State. Before the match Wofford will honor two seniors: Drew Superstein and Tom Wood. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Reeves Tennis Center.
