SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men’s and women’s track and field teams finished the 2013 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday at Georgia Southern. Both the men’s and women’s teams finished ninth in the final conference standings.
The men began the day with a seventh place finish in the 4x100 relay as the team of Chase West, Tevin Johnson, Sam Parrott, and Kyle Hofmann posted a time of 46.23. Tevin Johnson finished tied for seventh in the high jump at 1.96 meters and he was twelfth in the triple jump. Ryan Doyle was 16th in the 5,000 meters at 15:54.05. The 4x400 relay team of Sam Parrott, Chase West, Travis Butler, and Kyle Hofmann was eighth with a time of 3:29.18.
In the women’s 800 meters, Alyssa Burkert ran a 2:11.24 to finish fourth, while Katie Kessler finished sixth at 2:13.15. Sam Hughes finished in seventh place with a school record time of 17:52.91 in the 5,000 meters. In the women’s 1500 meters, Niki Klasnic ran a 4:50.32 to finish seventeenth. Kathleen Woods was 15th in the shot put at a career-best 10.08 meters. Woods added a school record in the discus with a throw of 36.18 meters for a 12th place finish. The women’s 4x400 relay was tenth at 4:01.39.
During the weekend, Ryan Doyle earned SoCon All-Freshman honors in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Tevin Johnson earned All-Freshman honors in the triple jump, high jump, and the long jump.
The Western Carolina men and women claimed the championship as the Catamount men finished with a total of 222.5 points, while the women finished with a total of 197.5 points.
