CONWAY, S.C. – The Wofford women's tennis team was defeated by the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
The loss puts the Terriers at 3-2 overall and Coastal improves to 7-0 with the win.
In doubles play, the Chanticleers swept all three matches to earn the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead. No. 3 doubles duo of sophomore Mareli Sanchez and freshman Taylor Carlson tested Marie Babayan and Amanda Malatek, but fell in a close match, 8-7.
In singles play, junior Audrey Coventry earned Wofford's only point of the match defeating Kourtney Kowal, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 2 position. Senior No. 3 player Julia Paulson almost earned a second point for the Terriers, but she fell in a match tiebreak to Honami Yazawa, 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8).
The Terriers are back in action on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. when they host North Greenville University at the John E. Reeves Tennis Center.
