HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Wofford College men's golf team completed the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate on Tuesday, earning ninth place behind the efforts of freshmen Andrew Novak and Jeremy Grab.
Novak headed all Terriers with a top 10 finish, taking ninth place with a three-round total of 7-over-par 223. He shot a 1-under 71 on his final round, tying for the third-best individual round of the day. Grab entered the day tied for seventh place, but shot a 6-over 78 on Tuesday to finish tied for 22nd with a tournament total of 10-over 226. Still, Grab led the field in par-3 scoring, combining to shoot 4 under par.
The Terriers climbed one spot on the team leaderboard, starting the day in 10th place after Monday's first two rounds. Wofford closed with its best round of the tournament of 7-over-par 295, finishing 15 strokes off champion South Carolina-Aiken. Aiken also shot a 295 to win by one stroke over Presbyterian, carding a winning total of 24-over-par 888.
Wofford's ninth-place showing in the 17-team field bested the likes of DePaul, Campbell, The College of William & Mary, Cleveland State, Richmond, Dayton, Ohio and High Point. Southern Conference foe Elon took a tie for seventh with host Francis Marion, just three stokes better than the Terriers.
Junior Brannan Hudson and seniors Chandler Brazeal and George Perkovich rounded out Wofford's five competitors. Hudson shot a 2-over 73 on Tuesday to earn a tie for 31st place, while Brazeal and Perkovich tied for 38th and 58th, respectively.
Virginia Commonwealth's Adam Bell took medalist honors with a three-round total of 4-under-par 212. Bell shot a 6-under 66 on his final round to hold off Presbyterian's Davis Parker, who shot a 2-under 70 and finished a stroke off the lead.
The Wofford men's golf team has next week off before traveling to the Davidson College Invitational, March 3-4, in Davidson, N.C.
