Final Results
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Sam Hughes and sophomore Alex Michaels set outdoor school records as the Wofford men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Charlotte 49er Classic this weekend for its opening meet of the outdoor season at the Irwin Belk Track.
Hughes led the way for the women as she set the school record in the 3K with a time of 10:19.72. The previous record was held by her as she set it last season with a time of 10:37.31.
In addition to Hughes, senior Alyssa Burkert finished fifth in the 800m as she crossed the finish line with a time of 2:12.25. Senior Katie Kessler also performed well as she cross the finish line at 2:17.92 for a 21st place finish in the 800m.
Leading the way for the men, Michaels had a solid performance in the 1500m as he set the school record and finished in 48th place with a time of 4:06.39. The previous record was held by Trey Parker who clocked a 4:08.19 1500m in 2010. The time Michaels ran places him 14th in the Southern Conference performance list in the 1500m.
In addition to Michaels, senior Hunter McGahee had a solid outing in the 3K as he crossed the finish line with a time of 9:11.17, which was good enough for a 21st place finish.
The Wofford men's and women's track and field teams will compete in their second outdoor meet of the season on Thursday, March 27 when they compete in the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
The Terriers then host their first track meet of the season on Saturday, April 5, when they host the Terrier Relays. More information will be released about the meet in the upcoming weeks.
