Men’s Tennis Drops Home Match with Charlotte

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After battling frigid conditions, the Wofford College men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to the visiting 49ers of Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center.

The match, originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m., was moved to a 1:00 p.m. start due to impending inclement weather. In addition to the earlier start, the two teams played to clinch to ensure safe travels for the visiting 49ers.

Senior Rob Galloway led the way for Wofford (4-6). The reigning SoCon player of the week grabbed the lone team point for the Terriers in singles play. Galloway faced Forrest Edwards at the No. 1 position, earning a quick win in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles, Charlotte won the first two matches to take the point. 49ers Paul Cisti and Jordi Massalle Ferrer defeated junior Parks Thompson and freshman Jack Thomas, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot. Next, Edwards and teammate Alex Calott fought for a 6-4 win over Terrier duo Walker Heffron and David Sklar. Galloway and sophomore Haris Poric led at the No. 1 position, 5-4, when the doubles action was called off.

In singles play, Heffron was the first to fall. The senior dropped a  6-3, 6-0 decision to Ferrer at No. 3, giving Charlotte a 2-0 team lead. Galloway drew the team points to within one before Thompson saw a 7-5, 6-2 setback to Calott.

Freshman Jack Thomas conceded the clinching point. After winning his first set 6-2, the Charlottesville native dropped two straight, 6-3, 6-2, as Paul Cisiti took the final team point at No. 6.

Freshman Parks Schoen competed at the No. 5 spot, fending off Jack Williams three times before winning a tiebreaker to extend the match to three sets for the Terriers. Schoen's match would conclude 4-6, 6-7 following Thomas' defeat, while Poric's match ended with Hundal leading, 6-7, 6-2, 1-0.

The Terriers have three days until they take back to the courts, traveling to former SoCon foe Elon on Saturday, February 28 in Elon, North Carolina. First serve begins at 1:00 p.m.
