Track & Field Closes Out SoCon Championship Action

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Wofford College men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up a solid weekend at the Southern Conference championships Saturday evening, with the Terriers rounding out their outdoor season with a few new school records.
 
"We did a lot of good things this weekend," said head coach Johnny Bomar. "We've grown a lot since the beginning of indoor season and took a lot of steps in the right direction this weekend. It's all a part of the process."
 
For the women, freshmen Katie Beuerlein and Kasey Widmeyer led the way. The two were both named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team for their performance in the heptathlon and both placed in the event. Beuerlein placed fourth overall with 3,809 points, while Widmeyer finished in eighth with 2,398 points. Sophomore Emily Williams also placed in the event, putting up 2,727 points for a seventh place finish. The women's 4x400 meter team also impressed, running a season-best 4:04.35 good for an eighth place finish.
 
For the men, the 4x400 meter team of Travis Butler, Matt Ransom, Sam Parrott and Alex Michaels led the way. The four teamed up to set a new school record, running in a time of 3:22.96 for a sixth place finish. Junior Tevin Johnson also placed for Wofford, grabbing an eighth place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.88 meters.
