BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On the opening day of the 2025 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium in Birmingham, Wofford College had strong overall performances, including a pair of individual championships by
Dani Emmen in the hammer throw and
Sherika Christie in the long jump.
The women's team is second (40 points) and the men's squad is currently seventh (6 points) after the first day of events. Twelve Terriers also advanced from qualifying to the Tuesday finals in fifteen spots.
In the field events,
Dani Emmen threw a personal best 50.00 meters to take first place in the hammer throw.
Ellie Sawicki was sixth at 43.25 meters and
Storm Owens was sixth with a personal best 43.25 meters. In the long jump,
Sherika Christie went 6.07 meters to take first place, while
Olivia Bagg was seventh in 5.55 meters.
Olivia Burroughs was sixth in the pole vault at 3.55 meters. In the women's javelin,
Sherika Christie was fifth in 42.62 meters and
Taylor Stingel was eighth at 34.73 meters. Patrick Green added a seventh place in the men's long jump at 6.69 meters and
Jacob Ritchie was seventh in the men's javelin with a throw of 51.40 meters.
Joey Swick was seventh in the pole vault at 4.10 meters.
Following the first four events of the heptathlon,
Olivia Bagg is first overall with 2,941 points. She was second in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump and shot put.
Isabelle DuChemin was first in the 200 meters and is currently third with 2,785 points.
Irene Pardo is ninth (2,414 points) and
Ne'Rya Vassell is eleventh (2,2024 points). After the first five events of the decathlon,
Jackson Casey is ninth at 2,976 points.
On the track on Monday,
Mary Claire Ridgeway was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a personal best time of 10:58.91. In qualifying heats, highlights included
Zion Bennett qualifying first in the 400 meters.

Samford is currently first in the women's championship with 67 points and Furman is first with 49 points on the men's side. The championship will conclude on Tuesday, with a full day of events ending with the 4x400 relays.
