HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams combined to set six records at the Thundering Herd Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Facility.
Amber Lust (60m hurdles, 60 m) and
Joe Harbacevich (800m, mile) each set two school records in the meet.
On Friday night,
Gaston Hayworth set a new school record in the weight throw at 15.37 meters.
Tevin Johnson went 7.07 meters in the long jump to break the school record he set in 2014 and finished third overall in the field of 21 competitors. Freshmen
Alexandra Forster and
Rebeka Fadgyas competed in the 5,000 meters.
For the women on Saturday,
Amber Lust broke her previous school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.06.
Sara Wilson and
Sara Jane Hayes also ran the 60 meter hurdles. In the 60 meters,
Amber Lust added a second school record with a time of 8.00, while
Alexandra Burgess,
Faith Jewkes and
Olivia Head also competed in the event.
Olivia Head ran the 200 meters, while
LeAndrea Combo and
McLeod Dean ran the 400 meters.
Jamie Barnett ran the 800 meters, with
Alexandra Forster and
Rebeka Fadgyas competing in the 5,000 meters.
Sara Jane Hayes competed in the high jump,
Kaselyn Widmyer in the triple jump,
Alexandra Burgess in the long jump, and
Alex King threw the shot put and weight. The Terriers had two teams run the 4x400 relay, with the combination of
McLeod Dean,
Alexandra Burgess,
Amber Lust and
LeAndrea Combo finishing in 4:11.20.
In Saturday's competition for the men, freshman
Joe Harbacevich placed fourth overall and set a new school record in the mile at 4:18.78, lowering the standard by almost two full seconds.
Alex Michaels, the previous record holder, was tenth at 4:21.87 and
Ben Hensley also competed in the mile.
Gaston Hayworth and Dalton Sullivan competed in the shot put, while
Omar Mingo placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 13.74 meters.
Matt Ransom ran the 200 and 400 meters, while
Tevin Johnson competed in the high jump. In the 800 meters,
Joe Harbacevich set his second school record of the day with a time of 1:57.79 to finish ninth, while
Alex Michaels was 18
th overall.
Dane Szalwinski and
Jonathan Rice ran the 3,000 meters, with
Cristian Widenhouse running the 5,000 meters. In the men's heptathlon,
Sam Robinson placed seventh with 4114 points, while
Conrad Heinrich was tenth with 4042 points. For the final race of the day, the 4x400 relay team of
Conrad Heinrich,
Alex Michaels,
Cisco Ferre and
Joe Harbacevich placed sixth overall with a time of 3:32.94.
The Wofford men's and women's track and field teams are back in action next Friday and Saturday, February 5-6, at the ETSU Invite in Johnson City, Tennessee.
