BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - At the 2016 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, the Wofford College men and women both finished in seventh place.
Overall seven school records were set at the championship.
Joe Harbacevich earned All-Southern Conference honors with a third place finish in the 800 meters. The Terriers received a total of ten All-Freshman honors, with
Conrad Heinrich and
Amber Lust picking up the honor in two different events.
The 28 points scored by the men were the most in school history, while the seventh place finish ties for the best. For the women, the 20 points also were the most in school history, with the seventh place finish the highest ever for the Terriers.
"I am very proud of the way that we competed this weekend," said head coach
Johnny Bomar. "This was the biggest point total ever for both teams and I am excited about that. The team put in a lot of hard work, and that hard work paid off for them."
In the women's triple jump,
Alexandra Burgess finished seventh overall with a jump of 11.51 meters.
Alex King broke her school record in the weight throw with a distance of 12.93 meters to finish in eighth place.
Amber Lust broke her record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.91, which was good for fifth place. In the 4x400 relays, the team of
McLeod Dean,
Amber Lust,
Faith Jewkes and
LeAndrea Combo broke the school record with a time of 3:59.51 and finished fourth overall.
For the men,
Joe Harbacevich ran the 800 meters in a time of 1:53.06, breaking the record he set in the qualifying heat by over a second. He finished third overall to earn All-Southern Conference honors. In the mile,
Alex Michaels placed seventh overall with a time of 4:18.62.
Conrad Heinrich took fifth place in the 60 meter hurdles at 8.63, while
Omar Mingo was eighth in the triple jump at 13.36 meters. In the weight throw,
Gaston Hayworth eclipsed his school record with a distance of 16.06 meters for a seventh place finish.
Conrad Heinrich was eighth in the heptathlon with 4314 points, while
Sam Robinson was close behind at ninth with 4170 points. The 4x400 relay team of
Matt Ransom,
Alex Michaels,
Ben Hensley and
Joe Harbacevich broke the school record with a time of 3:28.37, which was good for sixth place.
Samford registered 216 points to win the women's title. The Bulldogs were followed by runner-up WCU (164 points) and third-place ETSU (84.50 points). The Catamounts scored 183 points to win the men's title. Samford (129 points) narrowly beat out VMI (126 points) for runner-up honors.
The outdoor season will begin for Wofford on March 18-19 at the University of Georgia Relays in Athens. The 2016 Terrier Relays will be held on April 2 in Spartanburg.
