Wofford Competes At 2016 Terrier Relays

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams hosted the sixth annual Terrier Relays on Saturday at the Viking Track on the campus of Spartanburg High School. The Terriers set a total of eight school records in the meet, along with numerous top ten finishes.
 
Nearly 30 schools competed in this year's Terrier Relays, including Furman, Western Carolina, USC Upstate, North Greenville, and Converse. Overall, thirteen meet records were set by the teams in attendance.
 
On Friday afternoon, the hammer throw was held at USC Upstate. Alex King set a school record in the women's event at 43.14 meters as she finished third overall. Gaston Hayworth broke the men's record by more than three meters with a throw of 51.71 meters to place third overall.
 
For the women on Saturday, Anya Bunao starting things off by finishing first in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 11:33.22. The women's 4x100 relay team of Olivia Head, Amber Lust, LeAndrea Combo and Alexandra Burgess set a new school record with a time of 48.47. Jamie Barnett was ninth overall in the 1500 meters. Shannon McAndrew was fourth in the 5000 meters, as four Terriers finished in the top ten. In the 100 meters, Amber Lust ran a 12.40 to lower the school record. McLeod Dean added a school record in the 200 meters at 25.77. Alex King took eighth place in the discus.
 
In the men's events on Saturday, Joe Harbacevich was second in the 1500 meters at 4:00.08, while Alex Michaels was fourth overall at 4:01.38. The 4x800 relay team of Alex Michaels, Cisco Ferre, Ben Hensley and Joe Harbacevich broke the school record with a time of 8:02.99. Conrad Heinrich lowered his school record in the 400 meter hurdles at 56.23. Dane Szalwinski was ninth in the 5000 meters and the 4x400 relay was sixth overall. Tevin Johnson added a fifth place in the high jump and Sam Robinson established a school mark in the pole vault at 3.45 meters.
 
Wofford will compete next at the Beynon Sports Catamount Classic on April 14-15 in Cullowhee, N.C. The outdoor season will conclude for the Terriers on May 11-12 at the Southern Conference Championships.
