Lay Hired as Associate Head Volleyball Coach

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Head volleyball coach Lynze Roos announced the hiring of Jordan Lay as associate head coach on Monday. Lay was most recently the head coach at NCAA Div. II West Alabama for the past three seasons.

"I am thrilled to become a Terrier," said Lay, who coached against Roos during the 2013 and 2014 seasons when Roos was at the head of the Lynn University program. "Coach Roos and the entire Wofford family have been extremely inviting and helpful throughout this process. I believe in what Wofford is doing as a school and as an athletic department. I couldn't be happier to begin this new journey and am excited to get to work recruiting, training and building Wofford volleyball into a SoCon power."

Lay instilled passion, unity and pride in a West Alabama program that went 3-13 in Gulf South Conference play the year before he took over. He coached the Tigers to five conference victories in 2013, seven in 2014 and a respectable 9-11 mark this past season. The team's nine conference wins marked its most since 2011.

"Adding Jordan as associate head coach is a turning point for Terrier volleyball," Roos stated. "He brings a new level of enthusiasm and experience. From the first time I coached against Jordan, his passion was obvious and his knowledge was impressive. He works hard to inspire and motivate his players, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to work side-by-side as Wofford volleyball keeps improving."

Prior to West Alabama, Lay was the head coach for one season at NCAA Div. III Belhaven University. In that one year, he was named 2012 Southern State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the Blazers to a 27-9 regular season record and 9-5 mark in conference play. Combined with a pair of wins in the SSAC Tournament, Lay's team set the Belhaven record for victories in a season with 29. Lay was also with the program in 2011 as an assistant coach.

Additionally, Lay served as an assistant coach with Team Indiana Volleyball Club and at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis before relocating to Belhaven. He was also the head coach of the Butler University women's volleyball club team that won the Vanderbilt Invitational in 2010.

A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Lay earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from Butler in 2011.
