SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Emmanuel College (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon at Reeves Tennis Center.
The win improves the Terriers to 5-3 on the season, as well as 4-0 at home.
The Terriers clinched the doubles point quickly, after
Jack Thomas and
Lucas Cerbelli won, 6-0, from the no. 3 position. They were quickly followed by
Andrew Graham and
Trevor Gotkowski taking their match, 6-1. Even after the point was clinched,
Haris Poric and
Julian Chousa won, 6-2.
Wofford continued the momentum into singles play, as the team won all six singles matches over the Lions. In the no. 6 position,
Kyle Barr won easily, 6-0, 6-1. He was quickly followed by
Jack Thomas, who dropped just two games in his 6-2, 6-0 win in the no. 4 spot.
Lucas Cerbelli won yet again at no. 2, as he took a first set tiebreak, before winning the second set, 6-0, to take the match, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0.
Haris Poric rebounded with a 6-1, 7-5 win at the no. 1 position.
Freshman
Julian Chousa was able to grind out a tough win, after dropping the first set. Chousa came back to win 6-7 (7-3), 6-3, 1-0 (10-7). Junior
Parks Schoen has won two straight matches at the no. 3 slot, this time taking his match, 6-4, 6-1.
Up next, the Terriers will be back in action tomorrow, Feb. 5 at 1 p.m., as they host King University (Tenn.).
