SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team rebounded from yesterday's loss to take down Texas Rio-Grande Valley, 4-0, on a cold and windy Wednesday afternoon at Reeves Tennis Center.
 
The win is the Terriers 10^th of the season, matching last season's total. It also snaps a two game losing streak, which was the team's longest of the season.
 
"UTRGV came out to win today, which made us dig deep and compete our best in tough conditions," coach Rod Ray said. "We played the doubles the best we have all season and I was really proud of the maturity that we displayed."
 
The Terriers easily dispatched of the Vaqueros in doubles action to take an early 1-0 lead. First, Jack Thomas and Lucas Cerbelli continued their strong play of late with a 6-0 win in the no. 3 spot. Minutes later, Wofford clinched the point when Haris Poric and Trevor Gotkowski won their match, 6-3, over Koby Jansen and Mateo Schmit of UTRGV.
 
Wofford continued its momentum into singles play, where Parks Schoen took his match at the no. 3 position, 6-1, 6-4, to give the Terriers a 2-0 advantage.
 
Then, Julian Chousa took the team's lead to 3-0 with his 6-3, 6-3 win over Andres Hernandez at no. 5. Finally, with Wofford needing just one more point to take the match, freshman Lucas Cerbelli closed out Elliot Johnstone, 6-4, 7-5. With second set tied at five all, Cerbelli held serve to go up 6-5 and then broke Johnstone to clinch the victory for the Terriers.
 
Kyle Barr and Thomas were both in the second set when Cerbelli clinched the match for Wofford, while Poric was in the third set.
 
Up next, the Terriers return to Southern Conference play, as they host ETSU this Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m.
