CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams began the 2017 season on Friday and Saturday at the Charlotte 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex. The team set two new school records and had numerous top 15 finishes.

McLeod Dean ran a 24.56 in the 200 meter preliminaries for a school record and in the finals lowered that to 24.43 for sixth place overall. Dean was also the top Wofford finisher in the 400 meters at 58.08. In the women's 100 meters,
Olivia Head was the top finisher for the Terriers and
Madison Paraskeva was the first Terrier to cross the line in the 800 meters.
Mary Stewart Wilson ran a 4:52.42 to lead Wofford in the 1500 meters and
Taryn Schoen ran the 3000 meters in 10:44.18 for 12
th place overall.
Amber Lust was 12
th overall in the 100 meter hurdles at 14.88 and the 4x100 relay was 12
th out of 27 teams. The 4x400 relay finished 15
th out of 36 teams, while the 4x800 was eighth overall.

For the men,
Sam Robinson was the top finisher in the 100 meters and
Bosco Bapoupeleh was the top Terrier in the 200 meters.
Bradford Smith led the Terriers in the 400 meters at 50.18, just off the school mark of 50.17 set in 2009.
Joe Harbacevich ran a 1:54.65 to take tenth place in the 800 meters and
Jack Zemp had a 4:03.57 in the 1500 meters.
Cisco Ferre was 14
th overall in the 3000 meters.
William Stout (110 hurdles) and
Jonathan Hall (400 hurdles) led the Terriers in their respective events. The 4x100 relay ran a 43.80, while the 4x400 relay team of
Bosco Bapoupeleh,
Joe Harbacevich,
Bradford Smith and
Cody Chavis was 11
th overall out of 36 teams at 3:21.78 to set a new school record.

In the field events, Sara Janes Hayes was the top Terrier in the women's long jump, while Kasey Widmyer had the best distance for the team in the triple jump.
Alex King was 15
th overall in the women's hammer and
Emily Williams had the top throw for Wofford in the javelin. In the men's pole vault,
Sam Robinson cleared 3.75 meters.
Hunter Griffin threw 10.59 meters in the shot and 33.68 meters in the discus.
Gaston Hayworth was eighth overall in the hammer at 47.98 meters, while
Conrad Heinrich was 13
th in the javelin at 50.80 meters.

The teams will next compete at the VertiKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University on March 31 and April 1.
