Box Score Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team lost 6-3 to Radford University on Friday evening at Snyder Field. The Highlanders opened the scoring in the 2
nd minute of the game and withstood the Wofford comeback attempt to secure the win.
One minute and eight seconds into the game the Highlanders struck first from the foot of Jessica Wollman. Nelia Perez delivered a nice cross from the right side of the field and Wollman put it in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Wofford struck back in the 20
th minute when
Eva Dailey scored a rebound goal after the shot attempt from
Emma Fletcher was saved.
The Highlanders broke the tie in the 23
rd minute when Gabi Paupst scored from a set piece just outside the penalty area for her third goal of the season, putting Radford up 2-1. In the 25
th minute Jasmine Casarez buried her second goal of the season thanks to the assists from Nelia Perez and Abby Hurst to increase the Highlander lead to 3-1.
Just three minutes into the second half Jessica Wollman struck again for the Highlanders, this time unassisted to increase the lead to 4-1. Less than two minutes later in the 49
th minute, Jasmine Casarez scored her second goal of the game and third goal of the season after a cross from Jessica Wollman, making the score 5-1.
The Terriers showed no quit, despite being down on the scoreboard as
Hayley Younginer responded seven seconds later with a goal of her own, her fifth goal on the season. In the 57
th minute Radford's counter attack struck again as Jessica Wollman completed the hat-trick off the assist from Nelia Perez. The scoring concluded in the 61
st minute when
Hayley Younginer successfully converted a penalty kick for her second goal of the game and sixth goal of the season.
Despite the loss the Terriers outshot the Highlanders 14-11 and had ten corner kicks to Radford's five.
Hayley Younginer has now scored two goals in three consecutive games and has tallied six on the season.
Eva Dailey's goal was her first of the season.
The Terriers head back to the pitch Sunday, September 3 at 2 pm when they host Hampton University at Snyder Field.
