SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's tennis team opened the season with a win over the USC Upstate Spartans on Saturday afternoon at Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers swept the Spartans in doubles matches while splitting the singles matches. With the match score tied at three, freshman
Jenna Vroman defeated Carol Sigaki to secure the victory for the Terriers.

"Today was a complete team effort from top to bottom," Wofford head coach
Krissy Hall said. "I am so proud of the grit and fight each girl showed. I though we came out in doubles with great energy and used that to propel us to victory."

Wofford kicked the season off with a bang in the doubles matches as the combinations of
Cassidy Hicks/
Jenna Vroman,
Brittney Wilbur/
Curran Carver and
Annie Mayfield/
Lauren Reid all picked up wins. After Wofford had already clinched the point from the doubles matches,
Cassidy Hicks and
Jenna Vroman came back from down 4-3 to win the match 7-5.

Upstate got out to the early lead in the singles matches with a victory from the number six spot when Ellin Helleburg defeated
Annie Mayfield 6-3, 6-0.

The Terriers evened the singles score back up with a one from the number one spot thanks to
Cassidy Hicks who defeated Noelia Acuna 6-3, 6-3.

The Spartans then won two consecutive matches with wins from the number three and five spots. Vale Zamara defeated
Curran Carver 6-2, 6-3 while Gabriela Cevallos defeated
Brittney Wilbur 6-2, 6-4.

Despite trailing in the match, Wofford won the next two matches from the number four and two spots to clinch the season opening victory.
Lauren Reid defeated Taylor Dodd 6-4, 6-1 and then
Jenna Vroman notched the final point 6-3, 6-4 over Carol Sigaki.

The Terriers will continue the 2018 season on Saturday, January 27 when Wofford travels to Greensboro to face off against N.C. A&T at 1 PM.
