Nelson Tabbed First Team All-SoCon; Willie and Berson Named to All-Freshman Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its all-conference and all-freshman teams for the 2018 season on Tuesday. Kyle Nelson was named First Team All-SoCon while Ethan Willie and Shane Berson were placed on the All-Freshman Team.

This season's second team and all-freshman team includes 12 and 13 players, respectively, because of ties in the voting. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.

The senior defender from Austin, Texas was second on the team in points (6) and goals (3) for the 2018 season. Nelson started all 17 games this season, ranking second on the team in minutes with 1,550 minutes played. Nelson, a previous Second Team All-SoCon selection in 2016, finished his Wofford career eighth all-time in games played (73) while totaling 10 goals and one assist.

Freshman forward Ethan Willie, a native of Nassau, Bahamas, finished his freshman campaign fourth on the team in points (4) with two goals. Willie appeared in 15 games, including five starts, in his freshman season, notching his first career goal as a Terrier against UNLV on September 7, 2018 in the UNLV/Johann Memorial Classic.

Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Shane Berson, a native of Greer, South Carolina, appeared in 13 games, including 12 starts, totaling 52 saves on the season along with two shutouts. Berson tallied a career-high seven saves on two separate occasions this season, with both being 2-1 double overtime victories over UNCG (10/9) and USC Upstate (10/27).

Mercer led all squads with 10 total players earning postseason recognition, including a league-high five on the all-conference first team. ETSU and Furman featured seven, Belmont four, Wofford three, UNCG two and VMI one.

The Terriers ended the 2018 season 5-11-1 overall and 3-3 in Southern Conference play.
