LEXINGTON, Va. – On the opening day of the 2018 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at VMI's Corps Physical Training Facility, Wofford College had strong overall performances. The men's squad is currently sixth (11 points) and the women are third (28 points) after the first day of events.
Four school records were set or tied on Saturday, including
McLeod Dean in the 60 meters and the 200 meters. Thirteen Terriers also advanced to the Sunday finals. Four Terriers earned All-Freshman Team honors on Saturday.
In the women's pentathlon,
Amber Lust finished second with a school record 3532 points and earned All-Southern Conference honors. She was first in the 60 meter hurdles and was second in the long jump and 800 meters.
Sara Jane Hayes had 3295 points and took fifth place in the pentathlon, while
Megan Dunn had 3091 points for sixth place.
For the men in the opening four events of the heptathlon,
Conrad Heinrich is in sixth place,
William Stout is seventh and
Sam Robinson is eighth. Top finishes for the Terriers were Robinson with a fifth in the 60 meters and Heinrich with a first in the shot put and fifth in the high jump.
Austin Lufkin threw the shot put 16.0 meters to take third place overall. In the men's long jump,
Omar Mingo was seventh overall with a distance of 6.89 meters.
Cody Chavis took 10
th place in the 400 meters,
Sara Jane Hayes was eighth in the long jump at 5.60 meters,
Hannah Steelman took second place in the 3000 meters in 9:58.41 to earn All-Southern Conference honors, while
Taryn Schoen was seventh in 10:17.61 to score for the Terriers.
The men's distance medley relay team of
Ben Hensley,
Cody Chavis,
Ford McCoy and
Jack Zemp was sixth overall with a time of 10:27.39. The women's distance medley relay was seventh in 12:25.44 with
Jamie Barnett,
Olivia Head,
Sommer McKenzie and
Madison Paraskeva running for the Terriers.

Hannah Steelman in the mile,

Isaiah Ellis in the 60 meter hurdles with a school record time of 8.23,
Amber Lust in the 60 meter hurdles,

Bosco Bapoupeleh in the 60 meters,
McLeod Dean in the 60 meters with a school record time of 7.67,
Kassidy Morton in the 400 meters,
Joe Harbacevich and
Jack Zemp in the 800 meters,
Madison Paraskeva in the 800 meters,
McLeod Dean in the 200 meters with a new school record of 24.75,
Samford is currently in first place in both the men's and women's championship. The championship will conclude on Sunday, with a full day of events beginning with the last three events of the men's heptathlon and ending with the 4x400 relays.
