SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team is geared to start the 2019 spring season this Wednesday, preparing for a strong and competitive non-conference schedule that features nationally ranked ACC opponents, No. 1 Wake Forest and No. 6 UNC.

The Terriers open the spring season in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Wednesday (Jan. 16) to take on the No. 1 nationally ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons, who took both the NCAA team and singles crowns last year. The match is the first between the two teams and marks just the second time in program history Wofford men's tennis has faced a No. 1-ranked opponent, dating back to the 2015-16 season when the Terriers faced, at the time, No. 1 ranked UNC.
First serve is set for 3 p.m. at the Wake Forest Tennis Center, as Wake Forest is scheduled to also play a doubleheader against Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m.

Wofford finished the 2018 season 10-11 overall and 2-5 in conference.Â
Wake Forest holds four Demon Deacons that appear in the individual national rankings, including reigning NCAA singles champion Petros Chrysochos who finished the fall ranked No. 1 nationally after winning the ITA National Fall Championships singles title. He is joined in the rankings by teammates Bar Botzer (No. 25), Melios Efstathiou (No. 39), and Rrezart Cungu (No. 80). The Demon Deacons finished 31-2 overall last year and have compiled a 92-11 record over the past three seasons.

The Terriers will then travel to compete in Chapel Hill on Saturday (Jan. 19), preparing for their first doubleheader of the season against No. 6 UNC at 10 a.m., followed by matches against Bucknell at 1:30 p.m.
