BELTON, S.C. - The Wofford men's tennis team competed in the South Carolina Collegiate Championship on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Belton. The tournament is hosted by the Belton Tennis Association and sanctioned by the ITA.
"We had eight contestants in the tournament and eight had solid results," said head coach
Rod Ray. "Our doubles play is improving as is proven with the championship won by Julian and Omar. Our singles play is also more convincing. We had a number of players advance through the tournament with highly respectable performances."
In the doubles flight, the team of
Julian Chousa and Omar Willams earned wins over Lander, Furman, Coker and Lander to reach the championship. In the title match, they earned a 6-1 win over Pierre-Louis Dodens and Jacob Jahn from Clemson.
Bryce Keim and
Diego Losada won two matches in doubles, while
Javi Casasolas and
Edu Villar picked up one win.
During singles play,
Omar Williams had wins over Cocker, Lander, and Winthrop before falling to Henrik Atlevi from Furman in the semifinals.

Edu Villar won opening round matches in the bracket.
The tournament is played each year in memory of long-time college referee and Belton tennis volunteer Big Jim Russell. Russell was a top college official who served as the Referee of the NCAA Men's Championships, the ACC Championships, the MEAC Championships, the All-American Championships and numerous other major collegiate events. A total of 66 players representing 11 state colleges and universities competed in singles and doubles.
Next, the Terriers will play in the ITA Carolinas Regional in Cary, North Carolina from October 18-21.
