BOONE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams began the 2019-20 season at the Mountaineer Indoor hosted by Appalachian State at the Holmes Center on Friday and Saturday. Both the men's and women's teams took third place in the meet, while six school records were broken.
On Friday,
Jenna Reid set a new school record in the weight throw with a distance of 14.04 meters to take seventh place.
Georgia McDevitt was sixth in the triple jump at 11.23 meters.
In field events on Saturday,
Megan Dunn was seventh in the shot put at 10.82 meters.
Shakaiya Bradford added a third place in the high jump at 1.52 meters and
Georgia McDevitt was second in the long jump at 5.73 meters to set a new school record.
Tanner Henry was second in the high jump at 2.03 meters to set a new school record.
Netanya Linares went 3.36 meters in the pole vault to set a new school record.
William Stout was fourth in the pole vault at 4.15 meters.
For the women on the track,
Destiny Shippy won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.30 as the Terriers took the top five spots in the event.
Georgia McDevitt won the 55-meter dash in a school record time of 7.16.
Sommer McKenzie took first place in the mile at 5:17.20, while
Kassidy Morton was seventh in the 300 meters at 42.39. In the 4x300 relay, the team of
Dahlia Cutler,
Kassidy Morton,
Georgia McDevitt and
Kerrington Johnson was second in 2:45.25.
Isaiah Ellis won the 55-meter hurdles in a school record of 7.68, breaking a mark set in 2006.
Jaylen Muhammad ran a 6.52 in the 55-meters to finish third overall and he was seventh in the 300 meters. In the mile,
Jack Zemp took first place in 4:27.43, while
Ford McCoy added a fifth-place finish. Wofford had five of the top seven finishers in the 800 meters, led by
Bradford Smith in 2:00.77 for second place.
Josh Hendry was second in the 3,000 meters at 9:08.11. To close the meet, the men's 4x300 relay team of
Elijah Bull,
Bradford Smith,
Isaiah Ellis and
Jaylen Muhammad was fourth overall.
For the women, Appalachian State was first with 113.5 points, followed by UNC Asheville with 113 and Wofford with 92. Appalachian State was also first for the men with 136 points, followed by UNC Asheville with 130 and Wofford with 93. A total of seven teams competed on both the women's and men's events.
After the semester break, the teams will be back in action on January 10-11 at the ETSU Invitational in Johnson City, Tennessee.
