Wofford Wins Four Titles At SoCon Indoor Track & Field Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – The 2019 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded on Sunday at VMI's Corps Physical Training Facility, with Wofford College having unprecedented success. The Terriers won four individual championships, the most in school history. The women were fifth overall with 78 points, while the men were sixth with 48 points.
 
The 78 points scored by the women were the most in school history, while the fifth-place finish tied for the best. The men's 48 points were the second-highest total in school history and the sixth-place finish was tied for the highest.
 
Southern Conference titles were won by Conrad Heinrich (pentathlon), McLeod Dean (60 meters and 200 meters) and Amber Lust (60-meter hurdles). Only one title had been won by a Terrier in previous indoor championships.
 
Overall, seven school records were set during the championship. Ten individual All-Southern Conference honors were the most in school history: Conrad Heinrich (heptathlon), William Stout (heptathlon), Megan Dunn (pentathlon), Amber Lust (60-meter hurdles), Hannah Steelman (3,000 meters and mile), McLeod Dean (60 meters and 200 meters), Longinus Nnodim (weight throw), and Jaylen Muhammad (200 meters). Terriers also earned a total of three All-Freshman Team honors during the weekend.   
 
The day began with the final three events of the heptathlon. Conrad Heinrich was first in the 60-meter hurdles and second in the 1,000 meters. He scored a school-record 4,810 points to earn the Southern Conference Championship. William Stout was first in the 1,000 meters and scored 4,532 points to finish third overall. T.J. Maxey was tenth with 3,803 points.
 
In the women's mile, Hannah Steelman was third overall in 4:43.14 to set a new school record. Amber Lust finished the 60-meter hurdles in 8.54 to win the title. Destiny Shippy was fifth in the event at 8.99 to score for the Terriers. Isaiah Ellis tied his school record of 8.17 to finish fourth in the 60-meter hurdles. McLeod Dean set a new school record in the 60 meters at 7.52, coming in first in the event by .01 seconds to earn the championship. Amber Lust was at 7.77 in the race to take sixth place.
 
Jaylen Muhammad took fourth place in the men's 60 meters at 6.95 and Bosco Bapoupeleh was eighth in the event. Longinus Nnodim threw the weight 17.08 meters to set a new school record and finish third overall. In the women's 400 meters, Kassidy Morton was seventh overall, while Madison Paraskeva added a seventh place in the women's 800 meters. Joe Harbacevich was eighth in the men's 800 meters as he attempted to defend his title from last season.
 
McLeod Dean added her second title of the day with a 24.28 in the 200 meters to win the event. Amber Lust was fifth overall at 25.45. Jaylen Muhammad had a third-place finish in the 200 meters in a school record time of 21.80. The women's 4x400 relay was fourth in 3:55.30. The men's 4x400 team of Sam Larkin, Bradford Smith, Cody Chavis and Elijah Bull set a new school record of 3:22.97 to take fifth place.  
 
Western Carolina won its sixth straight men's title and Samford won its fourth straight women's crown. Western Carolina's Trini Feggett earned the Heath Whittle Award as the men's Most Outstanding Athlete and Samford's Selena Popp earned her second consecutive women's Most Outstanding Athlete award.
