INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana —The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee has announced the participants who will compete in the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Â
Hannah Steelman, a sophomore from Orono, Maine, qualified 16
th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:03.22. This marks her third time competing in an NCAA Championship, as she ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000 meters at the 2018 Outdoor Championship and ran in the 2018 Cross Country Championship.
Â
"This is another amazing achievement for Hannah and Wofford Cross Country and Track and Field," said coach
Johnny Bomar. "This will be her third national championship appearance. Qualifying to indoor nationals is extremely difficult as they only take the top 16 athletes in the entire country. The culture of the program has been molded by our phenomenal senior class and Hannah is doing a great job of carrying on their tradition.
Â
"Knowing this wasn't going to be easy, Hannah fully committed to the process from day one," continued Bomar. "Whether it was waking up at 6 a.m. for runs on her own or lifting between classes, Hannah's drive has never diminished. I am proud to have her represent Wofford College and our program on the national stage."
Â
Steelman is one of only two women from the Southern Conference to qualify for the Championship, joining Samford's Karisa Nelson who runs the mile. Competing in the 3,000 meters with Steelman will be three runners from New Mexico, two from Arkansas and one each from Wisconsin, Oregon, Boise State, Villanova, Stanford, BYU, Air Force, N.C. State, Colorado and Washington.
Â
The championships, hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the City of Birmingham, will be held March 8 and 9 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
Â
