LEXINGTON, Va. – On the opening day of the 2026 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at VMI's Corps Physical Training Facility, Wofford College had a pair of titles as
Sherika Christie won the pentathlon and the long jump.
The women's team is second (51 points) after six of the 17 events. The men's squad is fifth (13 points) after the first five of 17 scheduled events. Terriers advanced from Friday qualifying to the Saturday finals in seventeen spots and two All-Freshman Team honors were earned. A total of four school records were set on the day.
In the women's pentathlon,
Sherika Christie was first overall with 3,794 points to win her second title in the event. She was first in the 60-meter hurdles, first in the shot put, and first in the long jump at 6.03 meters, which tied her school record.
Isabelle DuChemin was third with a career-best 3,394 points. This marks the seventh straight year the pentathlon has been won by the Terriers, as Megan Dunn (2020, 2021), Netanya Linares (2022, 2023),
Sherika Christie (2024), and
Olivia Bagg (2025) also won.
The field events on Friday began with
Ellie Sawicki setting a new school record in the shot put at 13.67 meters, as she placed third in the event.
Maggie Frana was fourth at 12.93 meters with a new school freshman record, and
Sherika Christie was eighth at 12.42 meters.
Olivia Burroughs took second place in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.79 meters for a new school record.
Pamela Ann Pope was seventh at 3.19 meters.
Zico Bennett was fourth in the long jump at 7.04 meters and Patrick Green II was fifth at 7.01 meters. For the women in the long jump,
Sherika Christie took first place with a school record of 6.05 meters. She also won the event in 2025.
In the track finals on Friday, Ben Beucler set a new school record in the 3,000 meters and he finished eleventh overall. The Wofford men were fifth in the distance medley relay and the women were sixth in the event.

Samford is currently first in the men's championship with 59 points and first with 71 points on the women's side.
The championship will conclude on Saturday, with a full day of events ending with the 4x400 relays. The events on Saturday will air on ESPN+.
