STATESBORO, Ga. - The Wofford men's golf team wrapped up play at the Bash in the Boro on Tuesday, with
Matthew Copeland finishing in a tie for eighth place and
Ryan Marter finishing 10th individually.
As a team, the Terriers placed fifth overall, settling in after the opening round to shoot 281 and 288 in rounds two and three, respectively.Â
"Proud of the way we fought today," Wofford head coach
Alex Hamilton said. "We played 90 percent of the tournament exactly how we wanted. Very exciting for our first event of the year."
A native of Maryville, Tennessee, Copeland was steady in round one, shooting 4-under-par in his last 11 holes to post a 2-under-par 70. Copeland repeated his performance in the second round, birdieing four holes to post another 70 heading into round three. On Tuesday, the junior settled in on the back nine, birdieing three of the last five holes for a total score of 73.Â
After an up and down round one, Marter was locked in for round two on Monday, picking up six birdies on the last 12 holes to shoot a 5-under-par 67. The senior from Columbia, South Carolina, was steady on Tuesday, posting a pair of birdies to finish with an even-par-72.
"Very proud of how Ryan and Copeland competed, both finishing in the top 10, Hamilton said. "Copeland had a chance to win with nine holes to play being just one back. Great weeks for them."
After a tough round one,
Walker Jones shot an even-par 72 in rounds two and three, totaling a score of 223.
Nick Willis rounded out the scoring for the Terriers, posting a 1-under-par 71 in round three to finish one stroke behind Jones.Â
"I'm excited to see us build off a solid start," Hamilton said.Â
