SoCon announces revised volleyball schedule

SPAARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced its revised spring 2021 volleyball schedule on Tuesday.

The conference slate, originally scheduled to get underway on Feb. 4 and feature three contests per week, will now begin on Jan. 31. League teams will now play both meetings of the season against each opponent on consecutive days, meeting Sundays and Mondays to minimize concerns surrounding the coronavirus. Schools may also schedule nonconference contests in any of those three sports at their discretion.

"I'm so proud of how our team has grown and improved over the past weeks," said Wofford head coach Lynze Roos. "We are collectively refocused now with a set start date and match schedule."

The nine league teams will all play double-round-robin, 16-game intraleague schedules. The regular season concludes on March 29 with four matches.

The Wofford volleyball season tips off on January 31, with a pair of matches at Western Carolina concluding on February 1. The Terriers host Chattanooga for their first home matches on February 7 and February 8.

Wofford will then travel to Samford to face the Bulldogs on February 14 and 15, before four straight home matchups vs. ETSU (February 21-22) and The Citadel (February 28, March 1).

The Terriers hit the road for a pair of matchups at Mercer (March 7-8) before heading to UNCG for two contests (March 14-15).

Wofford will cap off conference play by hosting Furman on March 21 and 22.

The Southern Conference tournament semifinals will be held on April 2 with the championship held a day later, all at the site of the No. 1 seed.

"The Southern Conference is always exciting and challenging," Roos said. "There is a wealth of returning talent in the league and also some spectacular newcomers. Our focus now is remain healthy, continue to improve, and return ready to go in January."

Additional non-conference games will be added to the schedule, along with information regarding game times, facility capacity, and broadcast details will be announced in the near future.
