LEXINGTON, Va. – The 2020 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded on Sunday at VMI's Corps Physical Training Facility, with Wofford College winning three individual championships. The women were fourth overall with 97.5 points, while the men were fifth with 56 points.
The 97.5 points scored by the women were the most in school history, while the fourth-place finish was the best. The men's 56 points were the second-highest total in school history and the fifth-place finish was also the best ever.
Southern Conference titles were won by
Megan Dunn (pentathlon),
Hannah Steelman (3,000 meters) and
Destiny Shippy (60-meter hurdles). The Terriers have now won seven individual titles in the last two indoor seasons.
The twelve All-Southern Conference honors earned were the most in school history:

Netanya Linares (pentathlon),
Hannah Steelman (3,000 meters and mile),
Georgia McDevitt (long jump and 200 meters),
Isaiah Ellis (60m hurdles),
Destiny Shippy (60m hurdles),
Kerrington Johnson (60m hurdles),
Jaylen Muhammad (60 meters),
William Stout (heptathlon), and the women's 4x400 relay team.
Overall, nine school records were set during the championship. Terriers also earned a school-record total of nineteen All-Freshman Team honors during the weekend.
"I am very proud of this young group of athletes," said head coach
Johnny Bomar. "They stepped in and fill some holes left by a great senior class. They came in and helped us to not have much of a drop off in performances."
Sunday began with the completion of the heptathlon, as
William Stout was second overall with 4,781 points.
Tanner Henry was fourth at 4,724 and
T.J. Maxey was sixth at 4,181 points. Top finishes in the final three events included
William Stout in first place in the 1,000 meters and second place in the 60-meter hurdles and
T.J. Maxey second place in the pole vault.
In field events on Sunday,
Georgia McDevitt was ninth in the triple jump at 11.07 meters.
Nate Myers finished fifth in the weight throw at 15.60 meters. In the women's weight throw,
Jenna Reid set a school record at 14.35 meters and finished eleventh. In the high jump,
Shakaiya Bradford and
Megan Dunn tied for seventh place at 1.55 meters.
Hannah Steelman began the running events on Sunday by taking third place in the mile at 4:54.61, with Furman finishing first and second. In the men's 60-meter hurdles,
Isaiah Ellis set a new school record at 8.08 and finished third.
Jonathan Hall was seventh in the event at 8.51.
Destiny Shippy won the women's 60-meter hurdles in 8.70.
Kerrington Johnson was third at 8.88,
Netanya Linares fifth at 8.97 and
Megan Dunn eighth at 9.16 as the Terriers scored 21 points in the event.
In the men's 60 meters,
Jaylen Muhammad was third in 6.94 and
Sam Kamara was seventh in 7.02
Georgia McDevitt took fourth place in the women's 60 meters in 7.65.
Bradford Smith was fifth in the men's 400 meters in a school record time of 49.23 and
Elijah Bull was sixth at 49.27, which was also faster than the previous record.
Kassidy Morton set a school record in the women's 400 meters at 56.88 to take fourth place, with
Dahlia Cutler seventh at 58.08. In the women's 800 meters,
Madison Paraskeva was eighth at 2:18.65.
Jaylen Muhammad was fifth in the men's 200 meters at 21.92, while
Georgia McDevitt was second for the women at 24.50. The women's 4x400 relay team of
Kassidy Morton,
Dahlia Cutler,
Rylee Jorgensen and
Georgia McDevitt was third at 3:50.62 to set a new school record. The men's 4x400 relay ended the day and the team of
Sam Kamara,
Bradford Smith,
Isaiah Ellis and
Elijah Bull set a new school record of 3:18.83 to take fourth place.
Samford won its fifth straight women's title and its first-ever men's title. Samford's Matt Cahoon and Emmanuel Tait shared the Heath Whittle Award as the men's Most Outstanding Athletes and Furman's Savannah Carnahan earned the women's Most Outstanding Athlete award.
