Baseball Travels To ETSU For Weekend SoCon Series

THIS WEEKEND
The Terriers begin a weekend Southern Conference series on Saturday, with a doubleheader on Sunday ... Wofford has opened the season 16-11 overall after winning two of the three games against Western Carolina last weekend ... Last season Wofford was 14-3 after a 4-3 win over #14 Auburn before the season was halted ... The Terriers were picked third by the coaches and media in the SoCon Preseason Polls ... East Tennessee State is 15-12 on the season after winning two games in a series at UNCG last weekend and a 15-5 loss to #13 Virginia Tech on Tuesday night ... The Bucs were picked to finish fifth in the preseason coaches poll after a 12-3 record in 2020 ... The Terriers hold a 29-25 lead in the series over the Terriers that began in 1957 ... In 2019 the teams split a pair of games played in Johnson City and Wofford picked up a tournament win ... The weekend series starters for the Terriers are expected to be LHP Hayes Heinecke (2-4, 4.50 ERA) on Saturday, with LHP Sam Stratton (2-1, 1.64 ERA) and RHP Elliot Carney (3-2, 3.55 ERA) going on Sunday ... The ETSU rotation will be RHP Hunter Loyd (4-1, 2.87 ERA), LHP Colby Stuart (2-1, 3.27 ERA) and RHP Nathanial Tate (3-2, 3.00 ERA).

ABOUT WOFFORD
In the 2021 season, the team returns four starters in the field along with 13 pitchers ... Overall 26 players returned to the team with 17 newcomers ... This marks the 14th season under the direction of head coach Todd Interdonato ... Leading the team are eight seniors: Elliot Carney, Colin Davis, Jake Dippold, Lawson Hill, Clay Schwaner, Josh Vitus, David Yourke and Jake Zoller ... Among the pitchers, Hayes Heinecke was 3-1 with a 1.75 ERA and he was named the SoCon Preseason Pitcher of the Year ... Dalton Rhadans was 4-0 with a 2.35 ERA as a reliver and was tied for first in the SoCon in wins ... Josh Vitus was 1-1 and posted a 2.18 ERA in five starts ... Lawson Hill led the team with a .467 batting average that was second in the SoCon ... Colin Davis was fifth in the league in hits with 23 and had a .348 batting average ... John Dempsey hit .314 with three home runs.

IN THE NCAA RANKINGS
Wofford is currently in top 25 nationally in walks (15th), stolen bases (5th), sacrifice bunts (11th), and stolen bases per game (10th) ... Individually Colin Davis is ranked in total bases (36th), Shane Lussier is 38th in sacrifice bunts and Jack Renwick is 10th in stolen bases.

LAST TIME AGAINST ETSU
The teams split the series played in Johnson City in 2019, with the third game rained out. On Thursday night, the Bucs won 7-1. The Terriers won 10-4 on Friday night. In the SoCon Tournament, Wofford picked up a 2-1 win. ETSU leads the all-time series that began in 1957 by a 29-25 margin.
