Wofford Track Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the All-Academic Team honors for the 2021 NCAA Division I Track & Field seasons. The Wofford men's and women's teams were honored this season, along with Megan Dunn, Kerrington Johnson, Netanya Linares, and Destiny Shippy as individuals.
 
To be eligible for the All-Academic Team recognition, programs must have a 3.00 cumulative team GPA. The Wofford men's team had a 3.08 GPA and the women's team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.19.
 
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
  • For the indoor season: must have finished the season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event, or in the top 48 in any championship relay event, for the most recent indoor season, certifiable by their place on final season performance lists on TFRRS for Indoor Track and Field (including performances achieved outside the qualifying window during the indoor season).
  • For the outdoor season: must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (the Preliminary Championship Competition and/or the Final Championship Competition) or for the multi-events, must have finished the season ranked in the top 48 in the East or top 48 in the West for the most recent outdoor season, certifiable by their place on the NCAA Division I descending order lists on TFRRS for Outdoor Track and Field.
Dunn graduated in May with a degree in biology. A multi athlete from Dorchester, Ontario, she is a three-time SoCon champion, winning the pentathlon during the 2020 and 2021 indoor seasons and the heptathlon during the 2021 outdoor season.
 
Johnson, a sophomore from Anderson, S.C., qualified for the NCAA East Preliminaries 28th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.27. At the 2021 Southern Conference Outdoor Championship she won both the 100 and 400-meter hurdles and holds the school record in both events. At the Southern Conference Indoor Championship, won the 60-meter hurdles in a school record time of 8.49. Johnson is majoring in psychology.
 
Linares, a sophomore from Waxhaw, N.C., is majoring in biology and Spanish. At the Southern Conference Indoor Championships, she was second in both the pentathlon and pole vault to earn Most Outstanding Athlete honors. During the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships, she was third I the heptathlon, fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and seventh in the pole vault.
 
Shippy is a junior majoring in sociology and anthropology from Boiling Springs, S.C. At the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships, she was third in the 200 meters, fifth in the 100 meters, and third in the 100-meter hurdles. At the Southern Conference Indoor Championships was second in the 60-meters hurdles, fifth in the 200 meters and sixth in the 60 meters.
