ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Winthrop/adidas Invitational on Saturday morning in Rock Hill. The women finished second and the men were fourth overall in the meet.
The men's 8K competition started the meet and
Beck Classey was second overall with a time of 25:59.88, which is the 12
th fastest time in school history at that distance.
Josh Hendry was seventh at 27:02.05 and
Carson Archie was 13
th in 27:29.77.
Ryan O'Malley (29:10.56),
Jack Moody (29:37.75), and
Patrick Daly (29:52.50) also finished for the Terriers.
In the women's 5K race that followed,
Mary Claire Ridgeway was fourth with a time of 19:15.39 and
Alexus Atkins was fifth in 19:27.98.
Carolyne Shealy was 11
th at 20:10.84, followed by
Morgan Roberts in 12
th at 20:14.75 and
Ava Fowler at 20:23.55 for 14
th place.
Chloe Gilbert (20:50.43),
Katharine Spence (20:54.29),
Kimber Keene (20:54.35),
Emma Grace Hendrickson (22:17.64),
Cate Seegars (23:57.49), and
Gabby Gecan (24:10.02) rounded out the Wofford contingent.
Overall, South Carolina was first in the women's race with 28 points, followed by Wofford with 46 points. The men's race was won by VMI with 48 points, with Wofford fourth with 89 points. Allen, Benedict, Charleston Southern, The Citadel, Claflin, Coker, Gardner-Webb, Johnson C. Smith, Louisburg, Morehouse, Morris, Presbyterian College, South Carolina, VMI, Winston-Salem State and Winthrop competed in the meet.
Both the men's and women's teams will be back in action on Saturday, October 2 at the Asics Cross Country Invitational in Fairburn, Georgia.
