BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field competed at the Samford Invite on Friday, January 21 at the Birmingham CrossPlex. In a highly competitive field, the Terriers had numerous top ten finishes including first places in both the men's and women's 4x400 relay.
Destiny Shippy was 12
th in the prelims of the 60-meter dash at 7.81, with
Madeline McNinch 19
th at 8.03.
Cagan Campbell was 15
th in the men's 60-meter dash preliminaries at 7.01. In the women's 60-meter hurdles,
Kerrington Johnson and
Destiny Shippy both reached the finals with Johnson fourth (8.67) and Shippy sixth (8.85).
Jasmine Jefferson was fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 58.33, with
Dahlia Cutler 13
th at 1:01.23. In the men's 400 meters,
Conor Murphy was sixth at 49.96,
Theron Bradford seventh at 49.63,
Elijah Bull tenth at 49.96 and
Cagan Campbell 12
th at 50.13.
Destiny Shippy added an eighth-place finish in the 200 meters at 25.64, with
Cameron Dalton finishing eighth in the men's race at 22.84.
Josh Hendry as 12
th in the mile at 4:35.82. In the women's 5,000 meters,
Alexus Atkins was third at 18:29.98, with Katherine Spence (19:33.85) fifth,
Ava Fowler (19:36.39) sixth and
Morgan Roberts (20:25.05) ninth. For the men in the 5,000 meters,
Beck Classey was seventh at 15:27.67 and
Carson Archie took ninth place at 15:33.12.
The women's 4x400 relay team of
Dahlia Cutler,
Jasmine Jefferson,
Kerrington Johnson and
Madeline McNinch was first in 3:59.75. On the men's side, the team of
Theron Bradford,
Cagan Campbell,
Conor Murphy and
Elijah Bull also took first place with a time of 3:20.46.
In the field events,
Christopher Sheppard was eighth in the long jump at 6.35 meters and added a seventh place in the triple jump at 12.94 meters.
Rylee Jorgensen was seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 10.73 meters.
During the Samford Multis that took place as well,
Tanner Henry was fourth overall in the heptathlon with 4,725 points with
Sebastian LaTorre finishing 11
th and
Ben Kendall was 12
th. Henry was second in the long jump at 6.79 meters and second in the high jump at 2.04 meters, while
Sebastian LaTorre was fifth in the pole vault.
Netanya Linares was seventh overall in the pentathlon with 3,349 points, including a fourth place in the 60-meter hurdles and third place in the long jump.
The meet featured thirteen teams, including Alabama, Alcorn State, Bethune-Cookman, Louisiana Tech, Savannah State, Georgia, Samford, South Alabama, Tulane, UAB and Chattanooga.
The Terries will next compete on January 28 and 29 at the University of South Carolina Invitational.
