Jackson, Women’s Golf Each Earn Top-10 Results in Edisto Island Invitational

Maggie Jackson records second-straight top-10 finish in tie for ninth

EDISTO BEACH, S.C. – The Wofford women's golf team recorded a second consecutive top-10 result by tying for seventh in the Edisto Beach Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston. The Terriers were led to the finish by sophomore Maggie Jackson, who with a tie for ninth also posted a second-straight result inside the top-10. Lindsey Hollis finished in a tie for 15th to give the Terriers two golfers within the top-20.

Wofford recorded an 888 in the event to finish 36-over par at The Plantation Course at Edisto, a par-71 5,980-yard course. The score had the Terriers tied in the seventh position with Jacksonville in the 14-team field. Wofford has finished in the top-10 in now 10 of its last 11 events. With a score of 300 in round one to sit in fifth place, Wofford looked poised for another top-five finish, but despite an improved second-round 292, the Terriers fell to seventh after day two of play due to impressive outings by other squads. A third-round 296 would seal Wofford's position in seventh, as Jacksonville's final-round 298 felled the Dolphins two spots into the tie with the Terriers.

The Terriers claim wins over six schools in the event, including crosstown rival USC Upstate and the other Terriers in Boston University. The host Cougars finished in second place by three strokes, falling to one of their crosstown foes in Charleston Southern. The Buccaneers claim the tournament crown with a 20-over par 872 score.

Following her career-best third-place finish in Wofford's last outing, Maggie Jackson kept rolling by shooting 217 over the event's three days. Both her 217 and 4-over par results are career-bests. Jackson carded a 74 in round one to sit in a tie for 12th, and she improved in round two with a 73. But it was her final round that shined, as the sophomore carded a career-low 70 move into a tie for ninth. It is her second-straight top-10 result, which is also the second of her career. Jackson tallied 10 birdies, almost one-third of the Terriers' 31, to tie for fourth-most in the field.

Lindsey Hollis joined Jackson inside the top-20, posting a 219 (74-70-74) to finish 6-over par in a tie for 15th. It is Hollis' 10th-career top-20 finish. Her 70 in the second round ties her career best. With eight birdies, Hollis was not far behind Jackson's tally of 10.

Freshman Xuan Khue Minh Doan was consistent over the three rounds of play, recording a 75 in each for a 225 at 12-over. She was tied for 16th after day one and was in position to record her third-straight top-20 to open her career, but she had to settle for a tie for 30th in the 80-player field. Doan did record an eagle in the tournament, one of just seven players to do so. With 38 pars, the Hanoi, Vietnam native tied for the fourth-most in the field.

Rounding out the Wofford lineup are Nicole Amos and Ella Stoll, who each tied for 56th with scores of 232. Amos recorded a 76 to open, but she stumbled from there with a 77 and 79 to finish 19-over par. Stoll made her collegiate debut for the Terriers, and she shook off the freshman jitters after a first-round 81 to rebound with a 74 and 77 to move up the leaderboard and meet her teammate.

Wofford will next take to the course on its own turf, hosting the Terrier Intercollegiate later in the month. The two-day event will be held at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg on Oct. 24 and 25.
