SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced today its selection for Student-Athlete of the Week, with
Lilly Hatton of Wofford women's basketball earning the honor for all competition played from Nov. 30 to Dec. 6. The selection is made by the conference office.
Â
This is the first student-athlete of the week honor of Hatton's career. She becomes the program's fourth different player to earn the honor and the first since former teammate
Alexis Tomlin received it on March 9 earlier this year.
Â
"I'm really happy for Lilly to receive this recognition, which is well-deserved," said head coach
Jimmy Garrity. "She has always pushed herself to be the best student she can be. Lilly is a fantastic representative of our program and Wofford College. We couldn't be more proud of her."
Â
Hatton put together a stellar week upon her return from missing two games. The Georgetown, Ind. native led the team with 15.7 PPG, including a 23-point outing against Emory & Henry Monday night for a new season high. She shot 50 percent from three and 53.1 percent overall with a perfect 7-of-7 clip from the charity stripe.
Â
She recorded 12 boards, the biggest of which was her fifth in the win against App State, which was the 500
th of her career. Hatton is the 23
rd Terrier in program history to join the 500 rebound club. The senior also displayed quality defense, swatting four blocks. Three of those came against App State, a new season high for any Terrier in a game this season.
Â
The senior currently touts a 4.0 GPA as a biology major.
Â
Hatton and the Terriers are currently on a seven-game winning streak, the longest in Wofford's Division I era. Wofford carries that streak into Chapel Hill, N.C. on Sunday when the Terriers take on the UNC Tar Heels at 1:00 p.m.
