LEXINGTON, Va. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams took part in the VMI Winter Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Corps Physical Training Facility. The Terriers had two event wins, two school records and numerous top ten finishes in the final regular season meet before the SoCon Championships.
In Friday preliminaries, Wofford took the top three spots in the 60-meter hurdles with
Destiny Shippy,
Kerrington Johnson and
Netanya Linares advancing to the finals.
Tanner Henry and
Elijah Bull reached the semifinals of the 60-meter hurdles, while
Cagan Campbell made the semifinals of the 60-meters. In the women's 60-meters,
Madeline McNinch,
Destiny Shippy and
Rylee Jorgensen ran in the semifinals, with McNinch and Shippy advancing to the finals.
Conor Murphy lowered his school record in the 400 meters to 48.92 with an eighth-place finish, while
Theron Bradford was 11
th in the event. In the 1,000 meters,
Mary Claire Ridgeway was sixth at 3:08.91 and
Ava Fowler was ninth in 3:12.60.
Carolyne Shealy won the women's 5,000 meters in 19:24.21.
Netanya Linares was fourth in the women's high jump by clearing 1.60 meters and
Jenna Reid was tenth in the weight throw at 14.44 meters.
Saturday's events began with the mile, in which
Josh Hendry was 14
th overall in 4:26.95. The finals for the women's 60-meter hurdles saw
Kerrington Johnson take first place in 8.54 and
Destiny Shippy in second at 8.60, while
Netanya Linares was fourth at 9.04. In the finals of the women's 60-meters,
Madeline McNinch was seventh at 7.92.
Mary Claire Ridgeway was 12
th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.75. In the men's 200 meters,
Cagan Campbell was ninth at 22.07 and
Theron Bradford was eleventh at 22.25.
Madeline McNinch was second in the women's 200 meters at 25.26, with
Destiny Shippy eighth and
Georgia McDevitt 12
th.
Carson Archie was seventh in the men's 3,000 meters in 8:51:45 and
Ava Fowler was eighth in the women's race at 10:54.43. The men's 4x400 relay team of
Theron Bradford,
Cagan Campbell,
Conor Murphy and
Elijah Bull set a new school record in 3:16.13. The women's 4x400 relay was fourth.
Destiny Shippy added a second-place finish in the long jump at 6.64 meters, with
Rylee Jorgensen sixth and
Chandler Robinson tenth.
The meet featured nearly twenty teams, including NCAA Division I teams from Bucknell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, George Mason, George Washington, Western Carolina and Wofford.
The Terries will be back in Lexington on February 26 and 27 for the 2022 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship.
