SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Netanya Linares of the Wofford College track and field team was named the Female Most Outstanding Field Performer as voted on by league's nine head coaches following the SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend. The award was one of eight specialty awards announced on Wednesday.
Linares, a junior from Waxhaw, North Carolina, won the pentathlon with a school-record 3,673 points and added a win in the high jump at 1.64 meters, which tied a school record, along with finishing eighth in the pole vault to total 21 points at the meet. She won three of the five events in the pentathlon, claiming the 60-meter hurdles, the high jump and long jump.
She is Wofford's first winner of the Female Most Outstanding Field Performer award. It is only the second time a Terrier has been named a Most Outstanding Performer, joining McLeod Dean who in 2019 earned the honor in track. Linares was also the 2021 Southern Conference Most Outstanding Athlete at the Indoor Championships as the top point scorer and has six career All-SoCon honors.
Wofford will open the 2022 outdoor season on March 18 and 19 at the 49er Classic hosted by UNC Charlotte.
