SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced today its selections for baseball player and pitcher of the week, with Wofford's senior right-hander
Dalton Rhadans earning the Pitcher of the Week honor for all games played March 21-27. The selections are made by the league office.
Â
This is the first weekly honor of Rhadans' career. He is the second Terrier hurler to garner the distinction this season, joining fellow senior righty
Matthew Marchal on March 7. It's the third overall weekly honor for Wofford, as senior infielder
John Dempsey took home a Player of the Week nod just last week (March 21).
Â
"Dalton was our main piece on the mound to lead us to a 4-0 week against Upstate and Gardner-Webb," said head coach
Todd Interdonato. "He has been so consistent with his performance because he always seems to be in the right mindset when he enters the game. We are proud to see our players recognized and watch them get to share the honor with their family, friends and teammates."
Â
Rhadans anchored Wofford's bullpen throughout the week, pitching in three of the four games for 7.0 total innings. He faced 27 batters and allowed just five hits while striking out six, surrendering no runs or walks. Rhadans recorded a win and a save on the week. The slate began with an inning of work in the crosstown matchup at USC Upstate, in which the Acworth, Ga. native gave up a hit and tallied a punchout en route to Wofford's 10-6 win. Three days later, the right-hander slammed the door shut on Gardner-Webb in game one of the series by tossing the final 3.0 innings, recording his third save of the campaign by way of three strikeouts and just one hit allowed to cement the 7-4 triumph. In game three, Rhadans earned the win, his fourth of the season, to lift Wofford to a series sweep of the Runnin' Bulldogs with a 7-2 victory. He once again hurled the final 3.0 frames, giving up three hits and fanning two.
Â
With a 1.99 ERA overall, Rhadans is third in the SoCon. His three saves rank second, and his four wins are tied for first with teammate
Holden Wilder and three others. He also sits third with a WHIP of 1.07.
Â
The Terriers, 17-8 on the year and currently riding a five-game win streak, will be back in action Wednesday night at Russell C. King Field for a 6:00 p.m. matchup with Winthrop. Wofford then travels to the Lone Star State for a weekend series at Dallas Baptist that begins Friday night.
